The DRAKE ARCHERY ELITE Tapir is a successful combination of various harmonising materials. Dymondwood in the riser, black fibreglass laminate in the limbs and bamboo strips that frame the riser and run through the entire bow result in a compact, slim and incredibly light bow.

The Dymondwood used is an innovative material made of several layers of wood bonded with epoxy resin into a highly stable material. The different layers of wood allow a completely new colour design of the riser and give an absolutely unique look in grey and black, subtly reminiscent of a tapir's coat. With their streamlined build, tapirs are perfectly made for the undergrowth of the rainforest, where they can nimbly escape enemies but also defend themselves well against big cats such as pumas thanks to their strong canine teeth. All in all a fitting, if somewhat quirky, namesake for a bow.
But this material also offers several technical advantages: it is light, absorbs vibrations and allows faster, more even shooting.

The grip area, which looks very slim at first glance, feels different the first time you take it in your hand, because its ergonomic shapes with a relatively flat palm rest are dimensioned so that they sit optimally in the hand and do suggest a larger bow. This gives the bow a pleasant price-performance ratio and the archer good control over the bow.

Of course it is not only the looks that convince - the finesses of the hybrid bow quickly win you over too. No wonder, as this type of bow combines the best of two worlds: recognisable as a longbow at first glance, at 54 inches it is clearly too short to be a real longbow. It makes up for the missing length with the typical feature of a recurve bow, the clearly visible reflex-deflex shape in the limbs, and thus cleverly combines the characteristics of a longbow with those of a recurve bow. The result is a compact bow with a soft draw, high arrow speeds and a fast, complete reduction of vibrations in the riser. As is usual with a conventional longbow, on the hybrid bow too the string does not touch the limbs, only the tips.
